The story of our Remote Provision

During the first lockdown, THS opted for a ‘pencil and paper’ approach to distance learning as we were aware of the inequity of ICT equipment in the homes of our families.

Whilst our packs were really successful, we saw the world of online teaching really taking off and now want to ensure that our children don’t miss out on this in the event of forced school closure.

We therefore prepared for this by acquiring 110 brand new Chrome Books to loan to any of our families in need of ICT in the home. We had these in readiness for Lockdown 3. Please note: 3/4 of these have been funded by the DfE, a quarter we have purchased from our school budget. We now have over 250 Chromebooks and use these for Homework and isolation work.

The staff are fully trained in Google Classroom, and each child has been provided with a password and login. Henry Wood is the retriever of lost or forgotten passwords and you can contact him at school.

In the unlikely event of a full or local lockdown or Bubble closures, a timetable will be posted here. This is the example which worked for the previous Lockdowns.

We have given careful consideration to the above timetable and improved it from our previous offers.

We have thought very carefully about the complexities of the family situation in terms of number of children/siblings, number of devices to access Google Classroom and indeed the expectation that parents/carers have to work from home; with this in mind we have identified ‘live lesson’ times for each year group and will add additional lessons for children to complete at a time that works for families.  These tasks will not have a ‘deadline’ but we would hope that children can complete them at some point during the week.  We ask that children either uploads their work to Google Classroom or email it to their class teacher on their @thschool.net email account.  Teachers will put their individual email addresses on the stream on Google Classroom so that is clear and available. 

Our remote provision ensures that each day will have activities that are equivalent to the teaching time covered in school daily. Our aim is to work within school hours, but Year 1 ‘live teaching’ for the afternoon is 3.30 – 4.00 (this is mainly a reading/FoS activity) to end the day. 

• Teachers will avoid tasks that require worksheets to be printed.

• There will be a variety of curriculum activities, with daily links to a RWI English and Maths activity for all children. In EYFS there will be an appropriate mix of activities from the 7 areas of the EYFS curriculum.

• Work will be purposeful, meaningful and ambitious.

• The curriculum sequence will give access to high-quality online and offline resources and teaching videos and that is linked to the school’s planned curriculum.
